After visiting the "house of Soemporna" in Surabaya, my friend Amos, my sister Melva and I decided to change our plan. We decided to across the famous bridge in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. I visited the Surabaya for refreshing and felt the quite different atmosphere compared Medan the town where I live.
Amos who is so chatty at the moment, undertook to drive acrossing the Suramadu Bridge. Suramadu
is the abbreviation of “Surabaya” and “Madura”. Thus, Suramadu Bridge is a bridge which connected the city of Surabaya and Madura Island. The length of its about 5.438m; and can be passed vehicles such as cars and motorcycles in several several minutes. The road has two direction, one towards to Madura and vice versa. Based on my experience, the bridge is safe and very useful for local communities. The local communities who lives in Madura Island can be easily to transfer their local commodities to the capital city of East Java, Surabaya. The bridge fare for one way are :
- Motorcycle, IDR. 3.000,-
- Private Car, IDR. 30.000,-
- Public transport, IDR. 40.000,-
- Freight Car, IDR. 60.000,-
The fare is cheaper than ferry fare Madura - Surabaya or otherwise.
As a longest bridge in Indonesia, surely i was not squandered the opportunity to memorize it through camera snapshot. Bridge officially started
operating its use on June 10, 2009; and ceremonial inaugural ceremony held by
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
